4X4's - Defenders, Troopies etc

A question we get asked a lot - do we do work on 4WDs? Yes, we’d love to help you with you 4X4 fit out - be it your everyday driver or your expedition vehicle let us help you be the MVP of the worksite or campsite.

We get it, there are some places vans just can’t get to but these overlanding vehicles are made for it. They’re the vehicles made to do anything.

Ultimate adventurers Brendan and Claire from @saltylap (find them on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and more) swapped #vanlife for #troopylife part way through their salty lap of Australia. We asked them their top three favourite things about travelling in their Troopy.

  1. The community! The Troopy community is full of the friendliest people who are (most of the time) very like-minded travellers. Everyone will give you a wave or come up for a chat about adventures, set ups, mechanics. The willingness to help each other out is absolutely amazing, which is a big win when traveling on the road and funds for mechanical repairs are low.

  2. The ability to go pretty much anywhere. It will get you as far off the beaten track as you are willing to push it.

  3. The ease of repairs. There isn’t too many mechanics who don’t know how to work on a 70 Series Landcruiser. The parts are also extremely easy to come across should you need any. They are also pretty basic vehicles so if you are willing to get a bit of grease under your fingernails, you can fix a lot of issues that may pop up. This is when the first point really comes into play, there is so much information from very experienced Troopy owners/mechanics that can walk you through step by step to help diagnosing or fixing a problem. Which is also extremely helpful for point 2, as most of the time, you won’t be close to a mechanic 😂

They have also done a write up on “Troop Life” vs “Van Life”. Check out that and more of their work and travels here: https://saltylap.com/2023/01/14/4-x-4-vs-van-for-your-lap-of-australia/.
