Surf Coast Favourites
Airey’s Inlet Market
We love the Airey’s Market. It is the perfect balance of food and retail. It has some of our favourites as regular stallholders like Stir Crazy, Adelia, Otway Life Blueberries, Giant Springs and some lovely sourdough bread. The market runs October - July but i’s always a great idea to double check dates for the market as it’s on more frequently in some months than others.
The Captain of Airey’s
Hand stretched and made with love, you’d be hard pressed not to call Captains the best woodfired pizza on the Surf Coast. They have a great selection of pizzas to choose from and an extensive drinks menu. Our usual order is the Vegie Patch and Margherita with olives, a couple of ciders and whatever sweet pizza is on the menu. Bookings are recommended but you can always take it away and enjoy it in the park across the road too. They’ve recently undergone a little renovation too.
Lighthouse Tea Rooms
A few steps down from one of the most iconic lighthouses in Victoria, you’ll find the tea rooms. Lots of outdoor seating surrounded by lavender and cockatoos. They have plenty of delicious goodies to choose from, impeccable pain-au-chocolat, top-tier toasties and fantastic scones to enjoy with some English breakfast tea. Highly recommend going for a little walk to the nearby lookout afterwards.
Laneway 73
Laneway 73 is tucked away in the first set of Anglesea shops. They’re all about the cannoli but have other items on offer too - coffee, juice, food and even quality Italian deli goods. They also do great hampers which make fantastic gifts.
Anglesea Bike Park
400m of professionally designed mountain tracks for riders of all ages and experience. It is a great spot to enjoy with the kids on a sunny day. Our 6 year old loves taking his Cannondale out there and we feel really lucky to have something like it close to home. BYO food, drinks and picnic rug and make a day of it. #savetheangleseabikebark
Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie
The GOR Chocolaterie is a wonderful spot to take the fam. There is chocolate galore, obviously, but also a great café with a bigger menu than you’d expect, a really good outdoor area, a viewing spot to see some chocolate get made, lots of novel flavours including Australian bush tucker options and some super fresh ice cream at the gelateria. You have to check out the truffle cabinet and the Gourmet Collection of chocolate blocks with it’s beautiful packaging celebrating Great Ocean Road highlights.
La Cantina at the Common Ground Project
La Cantina is a rustic farmhouse restaurant in Freshwater Creek that celebrates fresh produce. The menu is ever changing depending on what is in season and available locally. Lolo will make you feel so welcome and at ease. From the fresh bread through to an amaro, you’ll enjoy a long lunch you’ll neve want to leave.
Lorne Hotel
We’ve got a soft spot for the Lorne Hotel after many. many childhood and teenage summer visits. Get to the beer garden balcony on a sunny day for some impeccable views and all the pub classics.
HAH Lorne
We love a sustainable café with healthy options, particular one that serves Ocean Grind coffee. HAH is right on the water, the perfect spot to enjoy some super smoothies or smoothie bowls. They also offer SUP and board rental, a real all-rounder. Remember your keep cup!
Great Ocean Road Mini Golf
With two custom built mini-golf courses, themed to their GOR location, Great Ocean Road Mini Golf is super fun spot for the whole fam. Do your best to join the leader boards and we might see your name there. They have virtual golf too!
Pizza Pizza Lorne
Find us a cuter pizza place than Pizza, Pizza nestled in grapevines and white weatherboards. You can dine in or order take away pizza from the window. You won’t miss it as you cross the bridge into Lorne with it’s adorable neon lights.
Fish by Moonlite
Fish by Moonlite in Anglesea stems from the iconic (dearly missed) Captain Moonlite. It offers classic fish and chips as well as fresh seafood to cook at home. Fresh oysters and quality potato cakes - yes please!
